Letter from the President,
Diane Kent

I hope you have been enjoying the summer, and taking advantage of the many activities, workshops and herb walks being offered by our professional members around the province.

Summer is such a busy time, and all too short. By the time you read this, we will be approaching the new school season, the autumn harvest, and most importantly, the OHA annual general meeting. This is your opportunity to talk to members of the Board and the Journal Team, to make suggestions for new initiatives, and to participate in some of the committees, or stand for election to the Board of Directors. We are planning a pot luck lunch, with plenty of time for socializing, and a few door prizes to add a little spice to the proceedings. The event will be held at the Assembly Hall in the west end of Toronto this year. Please join us as we celebrate our community.

The Herb Fair was a little disappointing this year. While it remains an important avenue for us to communicate with the public, the participation by members continues to fall. My sincere thanks to those of you who came. You all put in a marvelous effort to make the day a success. Our lectures and demonstrations were well attended, but sadly the weather kept many people away this year. It will be an exciting challenge to redesign and revitalize the fair for next year.

Isla Burgess gave a fascinating workshop on women’s hormonal issues in June. The information was invaluable, and I would like to thank Marianne Beacon for all her hard work making it happen. This type of event helps to establish the OHA as a reputable source for herbal expertise in Ontario. Watch our web site for upcoming events at www.herbalists.on.ca.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the Journal Team for all their hard work. The Canadian Journal of Herbalism is produced entirely by OHA volunteers, and depends on members for contributions. It is the only publication of its kind in Canada, and the new look is both attractive and professional. I am sure you will agree with me that the Journal Team do an incredible job producing the outstanding quality that you have come to expect every quarter.

My thanks to all of you, for your support and participation in the OHA this year. I hope we will see you at the AGM.
