For almost 30 years, the Ontario Herbalists Association has promoted safe and natural healing with plant medicines.
Whether your focus is medicinal, practical, culinary or horticultural, the OHA provides a number of opportunities in which to enjoy and support the world of herb.
Our primary goals are to promote public awareness and education on herbs and herbalism and to establish standards of education and practice for professional herbalists.
Vision:
- To promote a unified community that is based on a mutual devotion to the knowledge and practice of Herbal Medicine
- To advance high standards of education, professional practice and ethics in Herbal Medicine
- To serve as a resource in Herbal Medicine and disseminate such knowledge through a variety of promotional and educational materials.
Goals:
- Preserving the diversity of herbalism in all its ethnic, cultural and philosophical traditions
- Promoting public awareness and education regarding herbalists and herbalism.
- Promoting communication among herbalists.
- Fostering communication between herbal associations in Canada and internationally.
- Maintaining a register of professional members.
- Establishing standards of education and training, codes of ethics and practice, and certification protocols for professional herbalists practicing in Ontario.
- Providing support, guidance and leadership for new herbalists in Ontario.
- Representing herb enthusists and professional herbalists in negotiations with government regulatory bodies.
- Establishment of self-regulation of professional herbalists in Ontario.
- Encouraging communication between herbalists and other health professionals.
- Promoting the awareness and protection of endangered medicinal plant species.
- Supporting ethical research in herbal medicine.
- Providing leadership and direction for herbalism in the 21st Century.
